Makeup Artist Mario Dedivanovic's Genius Trick for Applying False Lashes

I am an absolute lummox when it comes to applying false lashes. Seriously — I asked my mom to apply them for me before my wedding earlier this year, and I'm old enough for this to be my second marriage 12 years after my first ended, if that gives you any idea how long I've been truly deficient at gluing fake fringe to my eyelids. If only I had thought of the brilliant tip Kim Kardashian West's go-to makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, recently shared with People, I might have been wearing expertly applied lashes whenever I wanted all these years.

"When you’re learning to apply them on yourself" — or if, like me, you just suck at it — "especially if you don’t have a steady hand, rest your elbow on some surface in front of you, like a desk," Dedivanovic said. "It makes a world of a difference."

I know — it seems so ridiculously obvious. Like, duh, just stabilize your wobbly-ass arm on a table instead of letting it flail all willy-nilly and of course the application process will go more smoothly. And yet, for decades, I've basically been doing the Chicken Dance while attempting to apply false lashes.

As for the false lashes Dedivanovic prefers for an everyday look, he loves Ardell Individuals, which are just $5 for a pack of 56. "“I have so many pairs of these because I use it the most," he told People. "I don’t love huge lashes and these are the most natural-looking."

Dedivanovic is, of course, full of why-didn't-I-think-of-that makeup tips. Earlier this year, for example, he revealed that, instead of using brush cleaner, he cleans his makeup brushes with the same face wash he uses on his skin, Philosophy Purity Made Simple Cleanser. And last month, he told Allure that, to apply loose powder, he folds the puff in half, rubs it together to absorb the product, and then rolls the puff onto the skin so the powder is released more evenly.

I have no doubt that, with his upcoming line, he'll be dropping even more pearls of wisdom to help us all become a little more self-sufficient with our makeup application.
